/ world today news/ On their feet and with tears in their eyes, the Bulgarians in Moldova sang the anthem “Go, Reborn People”, with which the festive concert on the occasion of the Day of Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture and Slavic Writing began. The guest of the celebrations for May 24 was the chairman of the BSP, who was invited by the Bulgarian community in the Tarakli district.
“When this hymn echoes in the streets of Bulgaria, here hundreds of kilometers from the cultural hearth, from where that fire started at the beginning of the 19th century, which your ancestors brought to Bessarabia, Moldova, Tvarditsa, it is especially joyful that you honor the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius”. This was stated by Mikhail Mikov during his visit. He recalled that the Thessaloniki brothers gave all Slavic letters to read, but emphasized that they also gave something more – the cultural connection and the sense of identity of a culture that is part of the world culture.
“I want to thank you for all the efforts you are making to preserve this identity,” Mikov added. “I would like the letters that we commemorate today, the equal apostles Cyril and Methodius, which we honor, to be only an occasion for more frequent contacts between you and Bulgaria,” stressed the chairman of the BSP. He thanked the mayors of Taraklia and Tvarditsa – Sergey Filipov and Ivan Zhelyapov, who made it their duty to preserve this cultural identity and celebrate the bright date of May 24.
Mikov apologized for not being able to respond to the invitation to visit Tvarditsa while he was the chairman of the National Assembly. “But today I am extremely happy that we are together,” he added. The chairman of the BSP explained that he is a member of a new commission, which was created a month ago at the initiative of the BSP – the Commission for Work with Bulgarians Abroad.
Mikov to the Bulgarians in Moldova: You are part of us, we are part of you
“You are part of us, we are part of you”. With these words, the leader of the left turned to our compatriots. “Be healthy, strong and successful. Kudos, dear hosts from Tvarditsa,” concluded Mihail Mikov. Many Bulgarians expressed their joy at the meeting with the chairman of the BSP, congratulating him on the occasion of the holiday and wishing him to return to Moldova again.
The event was also attended by the Bulgarian ambassador to Moldova, Petar Valov.
Later in the day, the chairman of the BSP met with representatives of the three Bulgarian communities in Moldova and presented them with books. As the main problem, they put the reduced subsidies with which the cultural identity is maintained and asked Mikov for assistance.
Among those present was Milen Minev, municipal councilor from BSP in Tvarditsa, Bulgaria. He said that on St. George’s Day he managed to bring 55 people from the Bulgarian side to see their relatives.
“The visit was accompanied with great joy. We want the visits between the two Tvardits to continue,” said Minev. Those present thanked him for the opportunity to see Bulgarians with Bulgarians, to share joys and pains.
