Bulgarian Wrestlers Shine on Day One of the “Dan kolov – Nikola Petrov” Tournament in Varna
The “Dan Kolov - Nikola Petrov” tournament, a prestigious international wrestling event held in Varna, Bulgaria, kicked off with a impressive display of skill adn determination. Bulgarian wrestlers dominated the first day, securing four titles and multiple medals across various categories.
In the classic style competition, Aik Mnatsakanyan emerged victorious in the 82-kilogram category, defeating Svetoslav Nikolov with a commanding 7:0 score.Meanwhile, Grisha Nazaryan claimed his first championship title in the 63-kilogram category, overcoming Kristian Milenkov with a 3:0 victory. The lightest category, up to 55 kilograms, saw Galin Furnadjiev take the top spot.
The final title of the day was secured by Bilyana Dudova in the women’s 65-kilogram category. Dudova delivered a stunning performance, defeating Latvia’s Elma Seidlere in just 3:31 minutes with an impressive 11:0 score.
Bulgarian wrestlers also claimed three silver medals in the classic style: Stefan Stefanov (55 kg), Miroslav Emilov (63 kg), and Ivo Iliev (72 kg).Bronze medals were awarded to Krasimir Kaloyanov (55 kg), Kristiyan Milenkov (63 kg), Petar Gornyashki and Dimitar Georgiev (72 kg), and Azis Atanasov (82 kg).
In the freestyle competition,Kaloyan Atanasov qualified for the finals in the 70-kilogram category,setting the stage for an exciting showdown on Friday.
The second day of the tournament promises even more thrilling matches. Olympic champion Semyon Novikov will face Andrey Atanasov in the 87-kilogram category, while Kiril Milov, a European champion and world silver medalist, will compete against Dimo Dimov in the 97-kilogram classic style.
Freestyle wrestling will feature a highly anticipated clash between Ramazan Ramazanov and American Quincy Munday, son of Kenny Munday, the first black Olympic champion in US wrestling. Their match will take place in the 74-kilogram category.

The tournament was officially opened by Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, who honored Kirkor Leonov, a European champion celebrating his 80th anniversary, and Petar Petrov, president and coach of “dobrudzhanski Yunak,” on his 70th birthday.
