Bulgaria is among the countries in the European Union that have received a batch of AstraZeneca vaccine, which has undergone additional inspections. They are made in connection with a death in Austria, where a vaccine from this batch was given to a patient who later died. The country has temporarily stopped using this vaccine.

–The batch contains a total of 1 million doses delivered in 17 countries. Meanwhile, Denmark has also suspended vaccination with AstraZeneca. However, the Bulgarian authorities are adamant that there is no danger to the health and life of those immunized with this preparation.
As soon as the “green corridors” were launched in early February, Svetla Kiryakova and her husband got the AstraZeneca vaccine. “Maybe 6 hours later I started feeling unwell, tired, chills, a slight pain in my arm. The next day we were exhausted. Everything went on for about 20 hours. It’s not a pain to die, if that’s the way to prevent this thing from stopping, we will just have to put up with it, “Kiryakova told BG on Air.
It turns out that she was vaccinated with the suspicious batch of the vaccine.
“I read the batch number, opened the card and saw that I had the same vaccine. I didn’t worry, they were almost 20 days old,” she added.
In Bulgaria, 31,200 doses of this batch have been received, and so far there is no information on side effects other than those described in the package leaflet.
“This is the first batch and it was distributed for the whole of Northeastern Bulgaria and everything was applied. It was received in February, there are no signals yet,” said the director of RHI Varna Dochka Mihaylova.
Today, the health authorities assured that there is no danger for the lives of the immunized.
“The European Agency does not recommend a blockade at this stage, it is still being established whether there is a causal link and there should be no safety concerns,” said Bogdan Kirilov, director of the Medicines Agency.
“We will make the decision solely on the basis of science. So this batch is not stopped, it is made. From another vaccine in the country more than a month ago, a few days after the vaccine, in Bulgaria we also have a fatal outcome, but we have no proof that this is due to her, “said Health Minister Kostadin Angelov.
After Austria, Denmark also stopped vaccinating with the AstraZeneca batch for two weeks. The reason is the fear that in some people it leads to blood clotting. However, there is currently no proven link between the vaccine and thrombus formation.
The inspections continue at the moment.
