14-year-old Aya Kasabova became the world champion for juniors in kitesurfing. It is a water sport that uses a board and a kite. The surf is propelled by the force of the wind. “If you’re a beginner, you just go left and right. If you’re better, then you jump in the air,” Aya was quoted as saying by Nova. A good kitesurfer knows both the waves and the wind. However, Aya’s story begins on solid ground.
“Our house is basically the camper,” Aya’s mother, Mila, pointed out. She shared that they do not spend more than two months a year in Bulgaria. “We were in Australia at the beginning of the year, in France, in Italy, in Spain, in Greece and now we’re going to Brazil,” Aya said. “Perhaps for many people it will sound like a real nomadic lifestyle,” Mila thinks.
Aya manages to combine sports with school: “I have all my lessons on the computer. I’ve studied on a plane, I’ve studied in a car, everywhere you can imagine.” That’s the price the family pays for Aya to train year-round.
“Now I’m the junior world champion, but I really want to become the seniors,” Aya said, adding: “Success for me is being happy with what I’m doing.”
