Bulgarian President dismisses parliament and approves caretaker government / Article

Bulgarian President Ruman Radev on Tuesday signed an order to dismiss parliament and hold early elections on 11 July. He has also approved an interim government that will run until the next parliamentary term has agreed to form a new cabinet.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev was forced to dismiss the legislature because no parliamentary party was able to form a stable majority coalition after the parliamentary elections on April 4.

Radev has appointed Stefan Janev, his defense adviser, as head of the caretaker government. The main task of the technical government new parliamentary elections will be held. Janeva’s cabinet will take office on Wednesday.

This was the last working day for former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, who has led the Bulgarian government since 2009 (with two short breaks).

In the beginning of April the Bulgarian parliamentary elections won the Borisov-led party GERB, gaining almost 26% of the vote. GERB was offered to form a new government, although Borisov himself, against whom a very large-scale protest campaign took place last year, had refused to run for office again. However, GERB had to admit its inability to form a government, and a similar fate befell the next two bidders.
