Bulgarian Guest House Owner Wins Culinary Competition with Traditional Rhodope Cuisine and Unique Desserts

Boyana Sharlopova won the “Icing on the cake”. The widow of businessman Stefan Sharlopov charmed Chef Manchev with her culinary skills and good presentation. This week, however, we have another winner – Maggie, who is the owner of a guest house in the Rhodope village of Kiselchovo.

Today’s host was the second winner, who immersed the guests and the skeptical chef-judge in the magic of the Rhodopes with a rich table of traditional lean food like on Christmas Eve. Chef Manchev was impressed by the use of local products, which is now very difficult to come across.

The landlady also surprised the visitors of the villa with an unheard-of traditional dessert – ashliya. It resembled the familiar ashure. It is prepared with rice, dried apples, dogwood compote, dried cherries and dried apricots. The sweet dish looks strange with its purple color, but the guests unanimously declared that the taste was supreme, writes “Bulgaria today“.

Maggie was a big traveler, but Bulgaria is close to her heart. That is why she took up the cause of restoring an old house in our mountains.

This week there were multiple hosts who earned 40 points – Mohamed Khalaf, Boyana Sharlopova, Mira Radeva and Maggi. In this case, the arbitrator – chief Manchev, must choose the winner of the “Cherry”. Although everyone did brilliantly, the chef we know settled on Maggie and Sharlopova.
