The prosecutor’s office today charged her with participating in a criminal group, while more participants in the scheme to blackmail the elderly are being sought
A 65-year-old Bulgarian citizen was detained by the police in Greece for telephone fraud. She is accused of participating in a criminal group, BNR reports.
The fraud was carried out according to the familiar scheme – an elderly woman in Veria was called on the phone with false information that her close relative had an accident, but funds were needed for the operation. The victim handed the Bulgarian citizen 700 euros and jewelry for 15 thousand euros. That day, two attempts were made to defraud elderly people in the same town, but they informed the police.
Nashenka was detained, and the jewelry and money from the fraud were found in her. The prosecutor’s office today charged her with participating in a criminal group, while more participants in the scheme to extort elderly people are being sought.
In connection with the frequent cases of telephone scams, the police again, through the media, recommend that people be extremely careful and contact the authorities if they are the subject of extortion.
