Bulgarian Attacked in Sudan, Evacuated to Cyprus and Returning Home

A second Bulgarian was attacked in Sudan, reports Nova. They were evacuated to Cyprus, where they were accommodated in a hotel. Tonight they are going to leave for Bulgaria

Earlier today it became clear that our compatriot was attacked in Sudan. He is one of the few compatriots who had not evacuated.

We remind you that two weeks ago the tension between the army and the paramilitary organizations escalated and this led to the evacuation of thousands of foreign citizens, including 34 Bulgarians.

Since the start of the clashes in Sudan, 500 people have died and more than 4,000 have been injured.

Yasser Mahmud is the name of the Bulgarian, bTV reported. He was attacked in the capital, he asked to be evacuated urgently. Before that, he was one of three compatriots who refused evacuation for personal reasons.

Most Bulgarians there have mixed marriages and the rest, despite the riots, had to take care of their loved ones.

Mahmoud is currently outside the territory of Sudan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The man is in Cyprus, in good condition and is expected to arrive in Bulgaria by the end of the day, the Foreign Ministry added.

Stay tuned for details.
