Illegal cigarette production in the Kingdom of Spain has been neutralized. Among the detainees is a Bulgarian citizen who held a high level in the hierarchy of the criminal organization, the Ministry of Interior announced. During the searches in the apartment inhabited by him, mobile phones and the amount of 35 thousand euros in cash were found and seized.
An investigation into the illicit manufacture of tobacco products has been launched on the basis of information provided by the DGCOC to the General Directorate of Criminal Police of the National Police of the Kingdom of Spain. In order to uncover a criminal group engaged in the illegal production of tobacco products, with the participation of Bulgarian citizens, in the period 24-26 February this year. A specialized police operation was carried out under the pseudonym “Fenix”. In the course of the police actions on February 25, a warehouse was established in the area of the Spanish town of Valladolid, in which an illegal factory for the production of cigarettes was built. For the implementation of all phases of the illegal production process, the factory was fully equipped with specialized equipment.
During the search, 257,800 boxes of cigarettes were seized – manufactured and ready for further transport, materials and consumables for the production of tobacco products from four brands of cigarettes. Eight workers of Ukrainian nationality were detained in the room.

After the permission of the respective judicial body, procedural-investigative actions and seizures were carried out in two more warehouses, detected within the framework of the conducted investigation. It was established that one of the premises was also used as an illegal cigarette factory, which was later dismantled. Materials and consumables for the illegal production process were found and seized in the other warehouse.
