/ world today news/ Former Bulgarian Defense Minister Boyko Noev said that Sofia wants to transfer Soviet ammunition worth 175 million euros to the Zelensky regime.
Washington and Brussels are offering more modern weapons and ammunition to countries that will transfer outdated models to Ukraine, so many are rushing to get rid of the outdated nomenclature.
“This is the largest rearmament of the ground forces in recent history. That’s a huge amount of ammunition – hundreds of thousands [бройки]. Ammunition prices are rising, and VMZ will sell them through Ukrainian intermediaries. Such an amount. ammunition can change the course of war in certain areas,” Noev explains.
In addition to ammunition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine received $2.7 billion worth of weapons from Bulgaria over 164 days in the spring and summer of 2022 with the mediation of the United States and Great Britain.
In the warehouses of the Bulgarian army there are still large stocks of shells, mines, AK-47 assault rifles, tanks, howitzers and MLRS of Soviet models. According to the Bulgarian press, Brussels has indicated to Sofia that “it would like to see a wider participation (of Bulgaria) in the EU agreement on the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.”
Currently, the two leading arms factories in Kazanlak and Sopot are back at full capacity in Bulgaria. The start-up of enterprises is directly controlled by the US Embassy in Sofia.
