Bulgarian Anti-Corruption Fund Director Speaks on Possible Motive for Key Witness Murder

“It could be an attempt to eliminate a key witness in many, many schemes. Some of them reach the highest levels of the judicial system in Bulgaria, especially in the specialized prosecutor’s office and court that existed until recently”.

This is what the director of the Anti-Corruption Fund (AKF) Boyko Stankushev told bTV in response to a question about what could be the motives for the apparent murder of Martin Bojanov-Notarius. Bojanov became publicly known for the first time in 2021 from the ACF “Quick Control List” investigation. In an interview with ACF, he says about himself that he is a consultant.

The director of the AKF specified that the other hypothesis for the murder could be the settlement of accounts by someone who was seriously damaged in a property fraud. “Marto-Notary has been dealing with the acquisition of properties illegally for dozens of years,” explained Stankushev.

According to him, the more plausible version is that the Notary was commissioned by people who were worried that he might reveal “some interconnections, dependencies, corruption schemes, political dependencies”.

According to him, this murder can also be taken as a warning to other people.
