Mafiosi from Bulgaria and Russia are operating in the tourist areas of northern Greece, it became clear this week from an investigation published by the Greek media.
Russian and Bulgarian mafias operate in Kavala, Thassos and Halkidiki. The mayor of Kassandra, where the bar with the shooting between Bulgarians is located, said that she was threatened with murder so that specific establishments and tourist companies would not be checked.
It is no longer even known who is the owner of the nightclubs that are rented by Bulgarians and Russians through fake persons. They control the security of the establishments, use rackets and manage drug distribution channels.
According to the journalist from “Telegraph” Zahari Belchev, the trend has been going on for more than 10 years, but after the shooting in Hanioti, there was more talk about it.
“Apparently, the hotels and restaurants are owned by Greek citizens, but the investors are shadow entities from the Bulgarian groups from the Transition”, Belchev revealed to Nova TV.
A large amusement park in Halkidiki, where a 19-year-old youth died two days ago from a collapse of a Ferris wheel, turned out to be without a permit and technical certificates. Workers there told authorities that all the games were imported illegally from Bulgaria, where they were left for scrap.
Organized criminal groups also operate in Thessaloniki, Athens and Mykonos, the media said in comments. The police are powerless to deal with them, Greeks comment on social networks.
