Bulgaria will buy a new Austrian vaccine against Covid-19

An application has been made, but the drug is awaiting approval, the health minister said

Bulgaria has taken steps to purchase a brand new Austrian vaccine, which is still awaiting approval for use. This was announced in the Parliament by the Minister of Health Stoycho Katsarov within the framework of the parliamentary control.

This is a completely new type of vaccine compared to the ones imported and used in our country so far. The preparation was developed on the basis of a killed virus, Katsarov explained. We have made an application, we are waiting for the permission, he added in response to a question from the BSP MP Prof. Georgi Mihailov.

“This vaccine has not yet been approved for use, but we have applied for participation in the contract and this will allow it to be delivered to Bulgaria when it is approved for use,” the health minister said, but did not name it.

Requests have been made for a total of 13,909,963 doses of vaccines for 2021, and as of August 10, 1,183,200 doses have been delivered, Katsarov said. He reassured that the population is provided with a sufficient number of drugs against Covid-19 by the end of the year, and for 2022-2023, and therefore we have allowed ourselves to donate and sell certain quantities so as not to expire. and not have to destroy them.

Our country has so far donated 172 thousand doses of Bhutan vaccine, 50 thousand doses are in the process of being donated to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 100 thousand doses are being sold to Norway and 546 thousand doses to Portugal, Katsarov said.

For the Republic of Northern Macedonia, 51,000 doses are also in the process of being donated.
