He specified that the snow cover will be minimal – about 1 cm. His forecast is that on Saturday the cloudiness will break and decrease and it will be mostly sunny, he recommended a walk or sports in the mountains on Sunday, which daytime temperatures will be 10- 13 degrees.
“All those traveling on Friday and Saturday morning should be aware of slippery road surfaces. Windy weather with rising temperatures will persist for the next week,” Yankov added.
The forecaster predicts before Bulgaria ON AIRthat 10-meter-high snowdrifts, such as there are in Turkey, cannot accumulate in our country, because “the weather is more cruel there, especially February”.
Warmer weather will persist for the first 10 days of February. In the period February 8-11, a snow-eating wind will appear, which will significantly reduce the snow cover in the mountains. But not for long.
“Little Sechko will surprise us with a significant cooling, on February 16-20 there will be a sharp drop in temperatures. The minimum will reach minus 15 in Northern and Western Bulgaria. These January colds are characteristic of the weather development in February and March as well. From 12 rains begin on February 13-14, and snowfalls are expected, which will significantly increase the snow cover. The next period of snowfall will be at the end of February,” added the forecaster.
Petar Yankov recalled that, according to folk meteorology, months with “r” are colder.
“A sign of the coming cold is the more intense feeding of the birds, who feel the change in weather 5-6 hours earlier,” added the forecaster.
