Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey are working to launch an anti-mine operation in the Black Sea. This was announced by Defense Minister Todor Tagarev at the opening of the international conference “Winning Peace in Ukraine”. The forum is organized by the Sofia Security Forum with the assistance of the US Embassy in Bulgaria, reports BTA.

“We worked for about two months without this information being public, it is now public,” the minister said. I trust that in the near future this operation will be launched, which will contribute to higher security in our territorial waters and in the exclusive economic zone of Bulgaria. It will also contribute to the export of grain from Ukraine,” commented Tagarev.

The terrorist threat has become particularly visible with the terrorist acts of Hamas against Israel and the ensuing tensions, which are perhaps still likely to escalate further. These events can lead to an increase in migratory pressure towards Bulgaria, as well as tension between different groups that support one or the other side of the conflict. At the moment, the probability of this is very small, the minister said.

In this situation, we work with our allies – this is the most important guarantee for our security, Todor Tagarev said.

The minister again said that Bulgaria will continue to provide political, military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine as long as it is needed.

Prospects for peace in Ukraine, strategies and ways to achieve security in the Black Sea region, the role of NATO and the European Union and the future of the European security architecture will be the main topics that will be discussed during today’s conference.
