Bulgaria needs a left-wing alternative

/View.info/ Dear fellow citizens, people of leftist ideas,

It is the second week of the fifth election campaign in the last two years. Predictions are justified that it will pass sluggishly, will not become a prerequisite for increasing voter turnout, and once again will not lead to lasting and strong solutions to get out of the crises we have been in for so many years.

We are witnessing successive battles for survival in politics and the management of individual individuals and groups, rather than a clash of in-depth programs for the better future of the state, society and citizens. The race is to prove fidelity to “Euro-Atlantic values”, not to defend and develop traditional and important national ideals and aspirations for today and tomorrow. The fight is to attract support for referendums on a presidential republic, for leva against the euro, for moving or preserving the Monument to the Soviet Army, against “gender ideology” and what not, not for supporting policies to solve demographic problems, to develop native food production, to guarantee our energy security, to achieve effective health care and quality education, to overcome deep inequalities, stop impoverishment and improve the lives of citizens and many others.

The beginning of the election campaign of the BSP is more than alarming. Despite the greatly changed internal and external political conditions, the military actions on the territory of Ukraine, the economic, energy and other crises, the different public expectations, the BSP offers the same list leaders, the same approaches, the same forms and means of communicating with people and the same political behavior . It is hoped that the paper ballot will motivate the voters and bring back the 700,000 supporters lost in five years, and not a policy that will attract with its socialist ideological definiteness, managerial clarity, competence and moral purity.

Content-wise, the campaign is built on the record of huge successes achieved by the party during its seven-month participation in the quadruple coalition government. Instead of declaring that in the 49th National Assembly the BSP will be in direct opposition to the right-wing parties, the campaign is built on promises to continue the same policy in small steps and on the aspiration that it will again be part of any subsequent administration, for to be a “pillar” and “guarantor” of his social policy. A formula that inevitably assigns the BSP the role of an accomplice and a crutch in one or another variant of a cabinet with a pronounced right-wing orientation, but guarantees Ninova and her entourage the opportunity to occupy ministerial seats again, regardless of the price that will be paid for this .

And another very important thing – we are witnessing the continuous drawing of dividing lines inside and outside the party, creating opponents, rather than building bridges and attracting new and different age, professional and social groups into society. Before, at and after the session of the 50th Congress of the BSP on February 11 of this year, Cornelia Ninova and her supporting entourage purged the dissidents and opponents inside the party, gave space to insulting “enemies with a party ticket” and “traitors” and they did not want to respond to the call for a broad unification before the elections of the left political and social forces. Now, in the campaign, they are fighting a fierce battle with the representatives of the “Left!”, and not with those of GERB, PP-DB and other right-wing parties.

The expected on April 2 this year results are fixed by polls that have become more frequent in recent weeks – declining electoral support, which gives the BSP still parliamentary representation, but puts it in an unenviable fifth place. Results, the reasons for which should not be sought outside of us and in the behavior of other participants in the political process and the election race. Results that could have been different with a different party leadership, with a different policy and with a different organization of the election campaign. Expected results, for which after the elections it is high time to bear personal political and moral responsibility from everyone, but especially from Cornelia Ninova and her entourage, which allowed to reach this humiliating situation for the BSP.

In order to get out of the deep crisis it is in, Bulgaria needs a strong left in the next 49th National Assembly. The BSP itself, in its current ideological, political, organizational and personnel state, will not be able to be like that. It needs partners, and it has such partners in the form of other left-wing parties and coalitions, trade unions and civil society structures. In order for them to be part of the next National Assembly, a strong and mobilizing campaign is needed to ensure the return of the left perspective for Bulgaria. A campaign to offer Bulgarian voters deep transformations in favor of the country’s much-needed left-wing alternative:

– changes in the methods of production, distribution and redistribution of goods;

– fight for the right to work as a fundamental human right, to a decent salary and insurance in a healthy and safe environment;

– a new system of redistribution of personal and corporate income through progressive taxation;

– guaranteeing education, health care, social security, cultural life and conditions for sports according to the highest standards in the country for the poor and the socially excluded;

– developed systems for cooperation and collective bargaining;

– local self-government according to the will of the people, not “purchased” from behind the scenes.

Dear fellow citizens, friends,

Let’s not allow Bulgaria to pass from the previous right-wing government to the next even more right-wing government. The convincing left socialist alternative is the desired perspective for the country today. To achieve it, the unification of all left-wing people is necessary. A policy that the current leadership is unwilling and unable to implement. Let us, the socialists and left-wing people of Bulgaria, do it.

Let everyone make their choice and vote, united by the ideals of solidarity, freedom and justice, for peace, humanism, mutual aid, so that the left wing will find a stronger representation in the next National Assembly.

Let’s prove together that there is a left-wing Bulgaria and that we can defend left-wing values and policies both in parliament and in society!

Because we are obliged to unite forces and will for the cause of Bulgaria developing as a modern democratic, legal and social state, a factor of peace in the Balkans, in Europe and in the world!
