Bulgaria jumped on Kim Jong-un because of Ukraine – 2024-11-05 16:19:00

The interim manager of the embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Bulgaria, Choi Yun-chong, was summoned to a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today regarding the received data on the presence of North Korean military formations on the territory of Russia for subsequent participation in the illegal war against Ukraine. This was reported by Vetsno, quoted by BTA.

According to US estimates, there are up to 12,000 North Korean servicemen in Russia, with 10,000 of them in the Kursk region, DPA reported, citing a statement by Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a few days ago that he had nothing to add to what had already been said in relation to Western claims that North Korea had sent thousands of troops to Russia to help it in its war against Ukraine, Reuters reported. Russia neither confirms nor denies the presence of North Korean soldiers on its territory, Reuters notes.

The General Director of “Political Affairs” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gergana Karadjova, presented the Bulgarian position that with its actions, the DPRK becomes an accomplice of Russia in its unprovoked and unjustified aggression against independent and sovereign Ukraine, in gross violation of international law and the founding principles of the UN Charter.

Our country defines these actions as a unilateral hostile act with serious consequences for European and global peace and security, which creates the conditions for a dangerous expansion of Russian aggression, she pointed out. Karadzhova described the current escalation as a sign of the Russian Federation’s disinterest in achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, despite repeated statements of readiness for negotiations.

By changing its position on the denuclearization of the DPRK, Russia is backing away from its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), including the pursuit of nuclear non-proliferation, in violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions passed under its support, Karadjova added, stressing that the DPRK will never obtain nuclear status under the NPT.

The Bulgarian side reaffirmed the positions of the statement of the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for foreign affairs and security policy dated October 25 this year and the statement of the Secretary General of NATO dated October 28 of this year, expressing firm solidarity with the strategic EU partners in the Indo-Pacific region and our country’s intention to work in close coordination with them, including in terms of countermeasures. Our country called for the suspension of assistance to Russia and condemned the actions of the countries that support the ongoing Russian war in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

Our Foreign Ministry also condemned another launch by the DPRK of an intercontinental ballistic missile on October 31, 2024. and called for the immediate cessation of provocative and destabilizing actions that threaten peace and security not only on the Korean Peninsula but globally.
