/ world today news/ The gray economy in Europe amounts to 22.1% of the total economic activity on the continent, which is equivalent to the income from the German economy, commented the edition “Zero Hedge”, referring to a report of the British service “Tax Research”. commissioned by the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the EP.
According to the document, in 2009, the gray economy in Austria and Luxembourg had the smallest share, equal to 9.7% of the countries’ GDP. At the same time, Bulgaria and Romania rank first in the ranking for unregulated economic activity in Europe with respectively 35.3% and 32.6% of the countries’ GDP.
The situation in the major European economies shows that the shadow economy occupies 16% of the total economic activity in Germany, 15% in France, 27% in Italy and 22.5% in Spain.
At the same time, in the ranking of the amount of lost tax funds as a result of the gray economy, Bulgaria is in one of the last places with 3.673 million euros of taxes not received by the state. At the top of this list are France, Germany and Italy with 120.619 million euros, 158.736 million euros and 180.257 million euros.
