Bulgaria gives millions of euros to Turkey for refugees – 2024-08-11 16:40:16

/ world today news/ Bulgaria gives 5,876,945 million euros to Turkey for refugees. This was decided by the parliament, finally adopting the draft law for the ratification of the General Agreement under the Mechanism for Turkey in favor of refugees.

The total amount under the mechanism is 3 billion euros, of which 1 billion euros will be financed by the EU budget, and the remaining 2 billion euros should be provided by additional contributions of the member states. The contribution that Bulgaria must make is EUR 5,876,945 million.

The agreement between the EU and Turkey should prevent the creation of new migration routes, explained the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science Meglena Kuneva. She pointed out that it is about refugees and does not affect the relations that the EU or Bulgaria have with Turkey, nor the visa liberalization or the open chapters in the negotiations for Turkey’s membership in the EU.

The Deputy Prime Minister commented that the reasons, schedule, reasons and the manner in which the burden of Bulgaria will be spent are listed in the ratification. According to her, control is also described. In addition, the EUR 6 million for Turkey is scheduled to be disbursed over 4 years, with most of it disbursed in 2017.

The EC will also create a committee that will monitor how the funds are spent.

Bulgaria is mentioned in point six of the agreement, where it is said that Turkey will take all necessary measures to prevent new sea and land routes for illegal migration from Turkey to the EU, assured Meglena Kuneva.

Last but not least, she indicated that she is working for Bulgaria to become part of Schengen. The Prime Minister said that during his political talks he hopes this will happen by the end of the year, Meglena Kuneva also noted.

We must be aware of Bulgaria’s position and whether we want to contribute to solving the refugee problem or pretending to be principled add fuel to the fire, said DPS co-chairman Cetin Kazak during the debates.

According to Kazak, it is appropriate to limit the damage to the EU as much as possible and to help Turkey, which currently hosts more than 3.5 million refugees, to overcome difficulties related to the provision of asylum, shelter and food. “Bulgaria is so small that it can make cardinal assessments of global geopolitical conflicts and dispense justice and, from this point of view, lead an independent policy,” Kazak pointed out. According to him, if the problem of the border is not solved in one way or another, it threatens to bring much more serious problems into our country without suspecting.

Kazak added that the DPS are convinced that this agreement protects the Bulgarian national interest, as well as that our country will be maximally protected from a possibly looming wave of refugees.

The chairman of VMRO Krasimir Karakachanov, on the other hand, directly stated from the parliamentary rostrum that it has been proven that Erdogan trades in the oil of ISIS, with whose money the attacks in Brussels and Paris are carried out.

He commented that our country is becoming an accomplice of the European leaders, who have once again failed. According to Karakachanov, we must look at the truth about Turkey. “The ‘good terrorists’ were arming themselves in Turkey, it supported the massacres of Christians in Iraq and Syria, as well as the destruction of Palmyra. I did not hear a single European leader who defended the Christians,” he explained.

On the other hand, Karakachanov asked where is the morale of the European leaders who have failed in this matter. “Let’s not forget that Erdogan is doing business with ISIS. This has also been proven by the media. He trades in the oil of the Islamic State and gives them money, which is used to cut off heads and carry out the attacks in Brussels and Paris,” Krasimir Karakachanov emphasized.
