Bulgaria has denied political asylum to mother and daughter. The woman is an active opponent of Putin. Irina Dmitrieva’s friends in our country staged a rally in support of her in front of the court. People are demanding that mother and daughter be granted political asylum
Irina and Marfa are among those Russian citizens who sought protection in Bulgaria after the start of the war and were denied refugee status. Mother and daughter leave Moscow for Vladimir Putin.
“Russia has waged a big campaign against citizens of different political persuasions. I have always been an opponent of Putin. I actively protested against it. The police arrested me because of a ribbon with the colors of Ukraine. If I go back to Russia, I have to shut up. I won’t be able to freely express what I think,” Irina told BTV.
However, institutions in our country believe that the situation in Russia does not suggest that people are being persecuted there because of their political beliefs.
“The Refugee Agency believes that the Russian Federation is a democratic country. “Bulgaria does not see and does not understand that the situation in Russia is terribly similar to what happened in Hitler’s Germany,” commented Irina.
Irina’s daughter Marfa has a congenital genetic disease, cystic fibrosis, and her physical survival depends on expensive drugs.
The two Russian women are appealing against the decision of the authorities of our country and hope that the court will declare otherwise and that Bulgaria will become their second homeland.
