Bulgaria called for maintaining the sanctions against the Russian Federation – 2024-08-07 16:15:05

/ world today news/ Bulgaria will adhere to the five principles of the EU regarding its relations with Moscow

Now there are no conditions for lifting the economic sanctions against the Kremlin.

The authorities of Bulgaria, which currently presides over the EU, intend to adhere to the principles adopted by the Council of the European Union regarding sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the permanent representative of Bulgaria in this organization, Dimitar Tsanchev, reports UNIAN.

According to him, the personal opinion of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev about the lifting of economic sanctions with the Russian Federation does not matter.

“We will adhere to the five principles for relations with Russia, which were approved by the Council in March 2016. An important condition for changing the EU’s relations with Russia is the full implementation of the Minsk agreements by all parties to the conflict,” said Tsanchev.

He recalled that the EU “demands that Russia respect international law”.

The diplomat also noted that Brussels relies on the Normandy format, an implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“The removal of heavy weapons from the contact line is absolutely necessary,” he stressed, and expressed his readiness to work to improve relations with Russia in the event of a change in the situation.

“But now there are no conditions for that,” concluded Tsanchev.

As Korrespondent.net reported earlier in October, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev called anti-Russian sanctions useless and called for other ways to achieve peace in Ukraine.

For his part, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that sanctions against Russia should be lifted.
