The Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria is a co-organizer and partner of one of the most significant events in the European tourism industry – the Annual Meeting of the European Committee of Associations of Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ECTAA).
The event will take place on October 24 and 25, 2024 in Sofia and will bring together representatives of 25 national associations of tour operators from all over Europe.
The meeting takes place in the context of the recognition of Bulgaria as “Preferred destination for 2024”, which emphasizes the country’s role on the European tourist map. The event provides a unique platform for Bulgaria to present its tourism potential to industry leaders, executives and experts.
During the forum, important issues affecting the tourism industry will be discussed, including the management of overtourism and its effects, the changes to the Package Travel Directive and the management of risks and crises in tourism.
The forum will be opened by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva, Frank Oostdam (President of ECTAA), the Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev and Dr. Daniela Stoeva (Vice-President of the Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents and member of the Executive Board of ESTAA). Minister Evtim Miloshev will deliver a keynote speech during the second day of the meeting and close the event.
“Hosting this meeting is an extraordinary honor for Bulgaria and a sign of the trust that the European tourism community has in us. We will use this opportunity to show not only our rich cultural heritage and nature, but also to strengthen our position as an innovative and safe tourist destination,” said Minister Evtim Miloshev.
After the official annual meeting in Sofia, the representatives of the 25 national associations of tour operators from all over Europe will visit Plovdiv – the oldest living city in Europe.
They will explore the Old Town, the Episcopal Basilica and enjoy a concert by the Plovdiv Opera, as well as the city’s wine festival on the occasion of International Mavruda Day. These activities are organized in cooperation with the municipality of Plovdiv and aim to demonstrate the city’s rich cultural heritage and modern tourist attractions.
For ECTAA:
The European Committee of Associations of Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ECTAA) was founded in 1961 and represents the interests of tour operators and agencies in Europe. ECTAA’s mission is to promote the competitiveness of the European tourism industry by working closely with all European tourism-related institutions.
Bulgaria’s hosting of the ESTAA forum provides an ideal opportunity for Bulgaria to establish its place as a leading destination on the European tourism scene, combining tradition, modernity and innovation in tourism.
