Bulgaria asks the EC for protection due to the excessive import of eggs from Ukraine – 2024-09-18 13:27:27

The Minister of Agriculture submitted the request at the meeting of the Council on Agriculture and Fisheries on September 23

The Cabinet approved the position of Bulgaria for the upcoming meeting of the Council of the European Union on Agriculture and Fisheries, which will be held on September 23, 2024 in Brussels.

In the field of agriculture, the European Commission is expected to provide an update on the situation on agricultural markets, in particular following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

From the beginning of 2024, an intensive import of fresh chickens is reported eggs for consumption in Bulgaria from Ukraine. In this regard, in the “Other matters” section of the Council meeting, the Republic of Bulgaria will present a document with which it addresses request to the EC for the imposition of protective measures under the Autonomous Trade Marks Regulation for Ukraine and specifically for prohibition of the import into Bulgaria of eggs originating from Ukraine.

The Hungarian Presidency will hold a discussion to review the second year of implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plans to help identify those elements that need to be adjusted or modified in order to
improve the effectiveness of CAP Strategic Plans. The EU’s up-to-date mechanism for dealing with crisis situations by activating emergency and emergency measures has proven its deterrent role in a series of crises and has made it possible to respond effectively to a number of market disruptions and disasters. Due to the change in the nature and dynamics of crises in recent years, work should be done in the direction of improvement or even the search for a new crisis prevention and management system, which is sufficiently flexible and effective on the one hand, and tailored to the specifics of individual member states on the other hand to achieve maximum effect.
