Within the framework of an official meeting in Bucharest, the Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria, Evtim Miloshev, and the Romanian Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Stefan-Radu Oprea, discussed the possibilities for the joint development of tourism in both countries.
Minister Evtim Miloshev emphasized the importance of regional cooperation:
“For the world, the Balkans are a complete destination with a rich history and cultural heritage that we can offer together. The Thracian and Byzantine heritage, together with the UNESCO sites, represent a huge potential for a common tourism product to attract visitors from Asia and the Americas. When we work together, we have no boundaries.”
During the talks, at the suggestion of Minister Miloshev, an agreement was reached to create a Tourism Committee between Bulgaria and Romania. The committee will unite the efforts of institutions, control bodies and the private sector from both countries, with the aim of developing and promoting joint tourist routes. The initiative aims to present the two Balkan states as a single destination for cultural, religious and winter tourism.
Minister Miloshev added that “Our cooperation in winter tourism also has serious potential. In December of this year, a charter line between Plovdiv and Bucharest was launched. Our country has long-standing traditions in winter sports and this will open up even more opportunities for Romanian tourists.”
As a sign of deepening cooperation, Minister Miloshev invited his Romanian colleague to jointly open the winter season in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian minister will also attend the opening of the winter season in Romania, and our northern neighbor will traditionally host Bulgaria during the upcoming tourist exhibition TTR in Bucharest in November 2024
On the Romanian side, Minister Oprea emphasized the importance of the integrated product and encouraged joint efforts: “Together the world will hear us better. Common travel packages will allow us to reach a wider range of tourists. I believe that our cooperation in the field of tourism will bring significant benefits to both countries.”
At the meeting, key decisions were made, including the signing of a memorandum of cooperation in the field of tourism between Bulgaria and Romania.
The Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria and the Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of Romania expressed their readiness to join their efforts for the twinning of Bulgarian and Romanian resorts.
