Three countries Baltic — Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania — together expel a total of ten diplomats Russia in response to Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Reported from the news agency ReutersSaturday (19/3/2022), Lithuania expelled four Russian diplomats, while Latvia and Estonia expelled three diplomats each.
For Russian diplomat were expelled in a coordinated move “in connection with activities contrary to their diplomatic status and taking into account Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine“tweeted Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics on Twitter.
In a statement, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had expelled the diplomats Russia because they “directly and actively undermine Estonia’s security and spread propaganda justifying the actions of the Russian military.”
The Lithuanian government said it had told four Russian diplomats that they had to leave the country.
“Russian military attacks on civilians, civilian objects, hospitals, schools, maternity wards, and cultural objects are war crimes and crimes against humanity,” said Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
“Russian special services are actively involved in organizing these crimes against the population Ukraine peaceful, so we don’t want representatives of this structure walking on our soil and posing a threat to Lithuania’s national security.”
“The decision has been coordinated with Lithuania and Estonia,” he added.
