San Salvador, Nov 6 (EFE) .- The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, confirmed this Saturday that the country experienced a third wave of coronavirus infections and indicated that daily positives and deaths “are dropping considerably.”
“Infections, hospitalizations and deaths from # COVID19 have been dropping considerably for several days,” the president posted on his Twitter.
He pointed out that “apparently the third wave of cases that our country has experienced has ended,” without specifying the months in which this situation occurred.
El Salvador, in which three variants of “concern” of the virus circulate, registered a rise in daily infections from June to October this year, which also generated an increase in the number of deaths, according to official statistics.
In October, which closed with 395 deaths, the highest numbers of deaths from coronavirus were recorded on days 4, 6 and 1 with 19, 18 and 17 deaths, respectively.
Bukele called on the population to get vaccinated to avoid a fourth wave.
It is unknown when the country suffered a second wave of daily cases of covid-19, since in October last year, when there was an increase in infections, the president ruled out this.
El Salvador reported the existence of 238 new cases of covid-19 and five more people died from the virus in the last 24 hours, according to official data updated this Saturday.
The Central American country accumulates 116,258 official COVID-19 infections, of which 14,492 cases are active, 3,675 people have died and 98,091 have recovered, according to the government website. EFE
