The architects of Casablanca complain of facing a critical situation marked by significant delays in the granting of building and housing permits, exacerbated by bureaucracy considered excessive and a blatant lack of communication. According to the president of the Regional Council of the Order of Central Architects, Mohamed Karim Sbai, this problem seriously hampers the profession and negatively impacts investments in the economic capital, he explained during a press conference at the headquarters. of order this Tuesday, May 6, 2024.
The situation is particularly worrying as Casablanca prepares for global events such as the 2030 World Cup. “We are faced with complications which are considerably slowing down our work and jeopardizing the future of the sector,” deplores M .Sbai.
The Council notes an inequality in the processing of files. “There is a disparity in the deadlines granted; some benefit from expedited processes while others wait months for their permits,” says Sbai. In addition, irregularities in the processing of files and decisions going against established regulations were highlighted, highlighting unorthodox practices within the Urban Planning department.
Tensions between architects and Casablanca town hall, led by Nabila Rmili, are intensifying. Letters and warnings were sent to the town hall to denounce these failings without receiving satisfactory responses. “These questionable practices have blocked vital projects and caused significant losses for professionals and investors,” says Mr. Sbai.
The Council of Architects asks the Casablanca town hall to take immediate measures to rectify the course of things and to assume its responsibilities in resolving this crisis. “Only decisive and balanced action can redress the situation and guarantee a prosperous future for real estate in Casablanca,” concludes Mr. Sbai.
