The building, located near the one that collapsed on Saturday, was evacuated because of the appearance of “new cracks”. Around fifty people are affected.
A new residential building, located near the building which collapsed on Saturday in the center of Toulouse, was evacuated this Sunday March 10 as a precautionary measure, fragilities having been detected, announced the town hall of the 3rd city of France.
“It is a private building, under surveillance and known to our services. The collapse created new cracks. A design office considered that these new fragilities were worrying. An evacuation order was given,” said Claire Nison, municipal councilor responsible for building safety, told journalists.
Around fifty people are affected by this latest evacuation.
No casualties recorded
The old three-story building which collapsed during the night from Friday to Saturday was evacuated as a precaution on Tuesday, following the appearance of a crack in a shop on the ground floor. Its occupants were relocated by relatives or the Toulouse town hall, which covers hotel nights.
Most of the people who had to leave their apartments within the security perimeter in the hours following the collapse returned to their homes.
On Sunday, dozens of trucks began evacuating the rubble through the narrow streets of this quaint shopping district, and were expected to continue their rotations until Tuesday.
At the end of the search carried out on Saturday by the firefighters, who inspected the rubble at length, no victims were recorded.
The collapse occurred in a pedestrian street, in the heart of one of the oldest districts of the city. The building dated from the 16th century.
