Just after 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, a building fire was reported in Sandviken.
The police stated on X that the reporter was standing some distance away, but that a lot of smoke was observed from the roof.
Fire crews at the scene reported heavy black smoke.
– Around 50 people have been evacuated. These are both people who live in the area and customers at a nearby shop, said operations manager Jørgen Ommedal in the West police district at 2.10pm.
At 14.32 the fire was reported extinguished by the 110 central.

Blocked by the area
Jørgen Ommedal said that the police were also considering whether to evacuate more people from the area.
– The information we have is that everyone has been evacuated from the address where the fire is. We have blocked off the entire Stølegaten, said Ommedal.
The police also cordoned off the area around the fire.
– This is because the fire service must be able to work. No injuries have been reported.
Menu employee: – Terribly unpleasant
Bodil Henne was at work at Meny when the boss suddenly came running.
– He said that “it’s burning, it’s burning!” “Are you kidding,” we said, but he was very serious.

– So we ran outside and saw smoke pouring out of the roof. There was a lot of smoke and a full emergency call, says Henne.
She says that all the employees, around ten, were evacuated by the police.

– Was home
The fire must have started in connection with a fireplace, says the fire service’s incident leader Hans Petter Nilsen.
– We have control. Those who live there were at home, but things have gone well for them, says Nilsen.
He says he doubts the store will open today.
– There is some water damage. We moved out with a lot of crew. The alarm went off in a densely built-up area with wooden houses. There are narrow streets here and many small apartments, says Nilsen.

Parts of Ladegårdsgaten, Henrik Wergelands gate, Stølegaten and Helgesens gate were blocked.
At 2.50pm, Ladegårdsgaten and Helgesens gate were opened, while the side streets were still closed.
