Building badly damaged after explosion: ‘We take into account’

A building on the Tongelresestraat in Eindhoven was badly damaged in an explosion on Friday night. It was about a quarter to three. According to a 112 correspondent, it would be the building of Club Number One, a shisha lounge. “We take intentions into consideration,” a police spokesman said.

The police and the EOD are investigating. Firefighters and ambulances were also called. Explosives specialists and forensic investigators investigate the area for traces.

Policemen in heavy bulletproof vests
“The facade of the building where the explosion took place is badly damaged,” the police spokesman said. What exactly caused the explosion is under investigation.

For safety reasons, the area surrounding the building has been cordoned off between the railway and the ring road. The 112 correspondent sees several police cars and officers in heavy flak jackets nearby.

‘Fortunately, no one was hurt’
The agents are interviewing people who may have seen something suspicious. “Fortunately no one was injured,” the spokesman said.

Club One was closed by the mayor after the building was bombed late last year and an explosive was found.

man shooting
An hour and a half after the explosion on the Tongelresestraat, a man was shot at at his home on Titanpad in Eindhoven. It is unclear whether this is related to the explosion.

The perpetrators fled after the shooting, but at around quarter past six on Saturday morning police managed to arrest two suspects elsewhere in Eindhoven.
