Representative Tony Franjieh affirmed, “The Marada Movement has always pursued political realism, openness, and faith in a pluralistic Lebanon. And pluralism in Lebanon never precludes work to build it. Building a state that is rich in its plurality requires balanced development between all regions and citizens, in order to protect the unity of Lebanon. And the unity of Lebanon is strengthened when We prevent the prosperity of one Lebanese region at the expense of another, and when we strive for all citizens to be equal in rights and duties, so that all of them, without exception, pay taxes and all benefit from services, and everything that contradicts this logic destabilizes the idea of Lebanon’s unity. Administrative decentralization, in other words, in dealing with the idea of implementing what was agreed upon in the “Taif” agreement, and he believed that the implementation of the “Taif Agreement” in general, and administrative decentralization in particular, is the main entry point for balanced development and the correct distribution of state resources among the Lebanese regions.
During a meeting with Marada youth participating in the summer camp organized by the “Youth and Students Office” in Marada, Franjieh considered that “whoever wants to build a homeland must search for the language of reason, not the language of instincts. This is what distinguishes us today, and what we seek to pass on to a generation.” Youth in whose abilities and competencies we believe and in the necessity of relying on those who preceded them with knowledge and experience, i.e. on the previous generations that gave a lot for Lebanon.
He added, “If we want to get our country out of the state of irresponsibility and statelessness, we must, at the minimum, talk with each other, so we agree to build our state and give all the push to the judiciary and the security services so that they can play their actual role. Whoever refuses dialogue on all issues, especially the basic ones, must bear responsibility.” The lawlessness that is taking place in Lebanon, which leads to a group of crimes, such as the recent crime that claimed the life of the innocent child, Naya Hanna.
Franjieh pointed out that “when we call for realism, it does not mean that we accept the fait accompli. It is attributed to a movement that is proud of its martyrs who were martyred in refusal to accept the fait accompli. For us, realism is working according to the logic of reason, not according to instincts and feelings.”
Franjieh turned to the youth, reminding them of the four media sins that Pope Francis spoke of a few days ago, namely: misleading, defaming people, searching for scandals and slander, saying that “unfortunately, we are exposed daily to some misleading media, for example during the “October 17” phase. He put forward principles that no citizen who loves his country can be unsupportive of, but there are some opportunists and careerists who benefited from this stage, and worked to steal slogans and play on citizens’ emotions, taking advantage of some media, so they were able to reach positions through their opportunism, not through their capabilities and competencies.
