Bühler inaugurates state-of-the-art mill in Florida

04. April 2022 13:10

The Uzwil technology group Bühler has for the milling company Ardent Mills built a state-of-the-art mill facility at Port Redwing near Gibsonton, Florida. The facility was officially inaugurated after more than two years of construction. It represents a “fundamental shift” in the way millers can control the quality and consistency of their products, one says media release.

It enables industry-first near-infrared grain analysis and high-speed automated packaging lines. The data analysis is available to the employees in real time, so that they can intervene in production quickly and without major downtime or even stop it. The system also saves on energy costs, increases staff safety, can be controlled digitally, reduces initial investment in the system and improves food safety.

The facility includes a mill, granary and cleaning house, as well as an office and several packing and storage rooms. The two mill units have a production capacity of 750 tons per day and 300 tons per day. There is also space for a third mill. Ardent Mills, one of North America’s largest flour suppliers, produces all-purpose, whole wheat, high-gluten, cake and bread flours there.

“A personal dream has come true with the opening of the state-of-the-art mill in Tampa. We have been there from day one trying to create an industry changing concept with the lowest energy consumption possible while maintaining the highest yields, making this mill a world leader also in terms of its carbon footprint (CO2 equivalent),” said Johannes Wick, CEO Grains & Food at Bühler. knockout
