Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport: We configure a hyper sports car

Bugatti customer for a day: AUTO BILD editor Jan Götze had the opportunity to book one online Configure Chiron Pur Sport and thus to practice in the event of a lottery win. Since the official Bugatti configurator is not freely available on the Internet, normally only customers who seriously intend to buy can enjoy putting together their personal Chiron. Bugatti made an exception for AUTO BILD!

I have waited a long time for this day: I can configure my very own Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. Usually the Configuration of a Bugatti Take weeks or even months, I have 60 minutes today. But with the help of Jascha Straub, Design & Sales Representative at Bugatti, I make the best of it. Under normal circumstances the configuration of a Chiron would take place in the studio in Molsheim. An offer that around 90 percent of European customers take advantage of, as Straub explains to me. Overseas customers usually assemble their Bugatti at the local dealer, but of course they are also invited to the company headquarters in Molsheim at any time. –

300 of the planned 500 Bugatti Chiron have already been delivered

Today I do it like most of the customers from the USA and configure my Chiron Pur Sport online. First of all, I have to mention that in my spare time I often and gladly test the configurators from different manufacturers and have already put together one or the other dream car. So I’m all the more excited about the Bugatti configurator. Since I only have 60 minutes, I am of course prepared: I ran through countless configurations in front of my inner eye and also got inspiration from Instagram by looking at and saving photos of different Chiron models. Fittingly, Bugatti has just announced that the 300th Chiron, a black Pur Sport, has left the studio in Molsheim. More than half of the planned 500 Bugatti Chiron are so already delivered. Now I really have to hurry to win the lottery!-

A detail that is only clear from a bird’s eye view: the Bugatti lettering in the color “Giallo Midas” on the wing.

Back to the configurator: For me, the Bugatti Chiron is one of the most difficult cars to configure. This is not only due to the endless possibilities that Bugatti offers its customers, but above all to the shape. Just like the Veyron, the shape of the successor also lends itself to a two-tone finish. The historic “Signature Line” divides the front and rear of the car. However, Bugatti has come up with another split for the particularly sporty Chiron Pur Sport, which is limited to 60 units. Jascha Straub explains to me during the configuration process that the customers in pure sport between three splits can choose: Mono (one color), Duo (two colors) and Pur Sport Split. The latter is a kind of horizontal split that was specially developed for the 1500 hp Pur Sport to make the hyper sports car look longer and more crouched. This split also contains a narrow carbon strip on the front hood that spreads over the roof.

Paint or full carbon for my new Chiron?

I choose that Mono Split – an unconventional choice as most customers take the Pur Sport Split. The first decision has been made. It continues with the exterior color: 27 paint finishes are available in the configurator, including seven different shades of blue; And as if it wasn’t difficult enough to make a selection, Bugatti also offers eight carbon finishes in which the entire body is made of carbon fiber. If that’s still not enough, you can use the “Customer Wish” item to have any imaginable color made for your Chiron. And by “every imaginable color” I mean every imaginable color: there is already a Chiron in purple with an orange interior. Or the recently delivered Chiron Sport “Alice” in the colors “Matt Blanc” and “Silk Rosé”, which a customer had personalized for his partner. When I asked whether Bugatti also rejects customer requests, designer Straub replied that, in principle, no requests are rejected – but sometimes “a little fine-tuning” is necessary.

Bugatti fulfills almost every equipment requirement its customers have

Since I prefer a classic paintwork to a carbon finish, I can test 27 different colors in the configurator. My choice falls on that Color “Fierce”, a very dark shade of green. The aggressively drawn Pur Sport looks noble and yet sporty. The huge air inlets and the lower part of the side skirts are made of carbon as standard in the Pur Sport. I leave out the painted “16” in the horseshoe radiator grille, which can be exchanged for any other one or two-digit number if desired. Less is sometimes more. It continues in profile with the “Signature Line” – this fine C-shaped line optically divides the front and rear of the car and is a central design feature of the Chiron. Here, too, there are almost 30 colors to choose from, including a chrome finish, but my research has shown that conspicuous colors don’t work for my taste. So I choose the color “Gun Powder”, a dark anthracite.

Love down to the last detail: the engine cover is painted in the same color as the car, with yellow accents providing a contrast.

I choose the same color for the wheels. Of course, I’ll take the ones developed for pur sport here rims included Aero inserts in carbonthat should help with the brake cooling. (These are the best summer tires for 2021!) A small but fine detail is the “EB logo” on the rim cover in the color “Giallo Midas”. This color can be found on my Chiron Pur Sport on the lettering of the standard rear wing and the small so-called boundary layer fences (aero fences) on the left and right of the wing, which are intended to reduce air turbulence.-

It gets particularly interesting again with the engine cover of the monumental 8.0 liter W16, the Chiron Pur Sport 1500 hp and 1600 Nm torque perform. Compared to Chiron and Chiron Sport, however, the maximum speed has been increased to 6900 rpm and the transmission has been re-graded. The engine cover can be ordered from Chiron Pur Sport in four different finishes. To match the paintwork, I choose a cover painted in dark green (“Fierce”) with yellow accents.

AUTO BILD configured Bugatti Chiron: discreet on the outside, striking on the inside

The interior is very detailed Configurator then reaches its limits. For my desired spec, I have provided a yellow interior, but under the more than 30 different leather colors there is not a single shade of yellow to be found. Apparently not many customers are so brave and prefer to choose more muted colors for the interior. Whereby even a striking purple shade is available. But Straub explains to me that Bugatti can implement almost any customer request, even if the configurator does not have the appropriate color ready. So we first decide on orange, which Straub then colors by hand in Photoshop yellow in order to come as close as possible to my perfect configuration. There are countless details in the cockpit – for example the logos in the headrests, contrasting stitching, embossed logos in the center console and much more. At this point I won’t go into every tiny detail of my configuration – just this much: no savings were made on yellow. Even the two steering wheel buttons for starting the engine and selecting the driving mode are yellow in my configuration; normally they are red in the Pur Sport and blue in the normal Chiron.

The yellow interior stands in stark contrast to the almost subtle exterior of the Chiron Pur Sport.

Bugatti does not reveal any surcharges in the Chiron configurator

After 58 minutes, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport configured by me is ready – a precision landing. At first glance, the dark green looks subtle, but still classy. Thanks to the large air inlets in carbon and the rims with aero inserts, the Pur Sport still looks sporty. The interior is in stark contrast to the almost reserved exterior – yellow leather and Alcantara as far as the eye can see. The dashboard is deliberately kept black to avoid reflections, and the steering wheel in black Alcantara is simply less sensitive than one in yellow Alcantara.
