Buffon says goodbye to Juve: his future in Bergamo? Atalanta thinks about it seriously

Gianluigi Buffon said goodbye to Juventus. The 2006 world champion goalkeeper with Italy’s Marcello Lippi in June he will close his adventure-bis in black and white, but he is not yet clear what the future will hold for him. To the microphones of Bein Sports, in the interview with which he announced the end of the marriage with the Bianconeri, the goalkeeper today 43 years old specified that “either I stop or I take into consideration a situation that gives me stimuli”.

The question arises spontaneously: and if Atalanta were the situation that could give Buffon new incentives?

In Zingonia they are thinking seriously about it, for a variety of reasons. The first, above all, is the dissatisfaction with Gasperini for the season of the two Atalantine goalkeepers who alternated between the posts: Gollini e Sportiello, in fact, they have offered good performances and others much less good, especially recently, when the Piedmontese technician has alternated them after a series of avoidable mistakes.

Both Gollini and Sportiello – the first in particular – have a market and the hypothesis that both start in the summer in the face of a convincing offer must be taken into account.

The second reason has a name and a surname: Marco Carnesecchi. The goalkeeper born in 2000 on loan to Cremonese is considered the future number one of Atalanta, but 20 years and only two concrete experiences in Serie B (with Trapani and Cremonese) may be too little to entrust him with the goal of a Champions League team. For this reason, having a “hen” of Buffon’s caliber – ten championships won in Italy and one in France, as well as a world cup with the national team – would be essential to accompany him towards the great leap.

Marco Carnesecchi, 20 years old, since January 20 games as a starter with Cremonese

Buffon blew 43 candles on January 28th. Many, for a professional athlete. But this season, when it was his turn to take the field with the bianconeri, there were no doubts about his reliability, despite his identity card.

To return to Juve in the summer of 2019, the Carrara goalkeeper cut his salary and today he receives “only” 1.5 million euros, in line with Atalanta’s budget for the last few years.

In short, Buffon is looking for a new, last adventure and Atalanta would be comfortable with a new number one who can support his goalkeeper of tomorrow. The puzzle could come together, but first we have to face the season finale: there is still a place at stake in next year’s Champions League and, above all, the Italian Cup final, which will be – perhaps due to a twist of fate – Buffon’s last with the Juve shirt. Right against the Goddess.
