The Buffalo Bills took revenge for their AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last year by knocking out 38-20 winners in a rainy Arrowhead stadium during Sunday Night Football.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen had 315 yards and three touchdowns, adding 59 yards and one rushing score, while Buffalo’s top-ranked defense beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in a practical road victory.
The Bills scored 17 straight points in the second quarter to take a 24-13 halftime lead, but their momentum was later cut short by a 62-minute delay during the break due to thunderstorms in the region.

When the game finally resumed, Buffalo continued to dominate the proceedings, with Mahomes eliminated on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter, the first of them coming back for a 26-yard touchdown by Micah Hyde.
Rookie rusher Greg Rousseau landed the second pick from a shaken Mahomes, who also spat a late fumble. The Kansas City quarterback finished with 272 passing yards and 61 rushing, but couldn’t stop the Chiefs from sliding to a second straight loss at home and 2-3 this season. The Bills, meanwhile, are atop the AFC East with a 4-1 record.

Key games
It was Kansas City that took the lead early in the competition as Harrison Butker shot through a 31-yard basket to cap a long, 17-game opener for the home side.
The Bills responded with a touchdown in their first series – Allen for a nine-yard scoreline – before the Chiefs missed the next kick-off, but Buffalo couldn’t add points to the turnover.
Mahomes led another long run for the Chiefs, capped off with a five-yard touchdown to Byron Pringle to see them nose-ahead again, only for Buffalo to respond once more with seven of their own, Allen finding Emmanuel Sanders 35 yards away. for the first of his two scores on the day.
Tyler Bass added a field goal in Buffalo’s next series, before Allen hooked up with tight end Dawson Knox on a stunning 53-yard strike from the Kansas City full-back as he returned. the ball on the downs going for her (and failing that, incomplete Mahomes for Travis Kelce) on the 4th and 5th of the Buffalo 32-yard line.
Butker at least succeeded in KC’s next set with a 54-yard kick as the clock ticked off in the first half with the Chiefs entering the breakout 11-24-13.
The hosts were fortunate enough to regroup for a long interval as local thunderstorms delayed the second half by an hour. But, when play finally resumed, the Buffalo defense continued to dominate, and Allen continued to impress with a few flashy plays – including one that saw him leap over a rushing Kansas City defender.
Hyde’s pick six saw the Bills stand out more, and while a Mahomes touchdown against favorite target Kelce early in the final quarter of the competition briefly gave home support hope, Allen answered all. straight away with his second TD pitch at Sanders to effectively put the game away.
And after?
The Chiefs (2-3) host the Washington football team (2-3) next Sunday, with both teams from last year’s playoffs looking to kick off their seasons after the duds started. The Bills (4-1), meanwhile, will feature in Monday Night Football as they travel to Tennessee to face the Titans (3-2).
