“Buenos Dias!” Starting his working day with these words was probably a first for Martin Burlon. But he would like to do it more often. Yesterday morning the mayor of Dreieich welcomed three Spanish teachers to the Winkelsmühle daycare center in Dreieichenhain. They are the first to arrive in Dreieich via the recruitment company Helmeca.
Dreieich – There are a number of municipalities in the Offenbach district that have long trusted in the services of the company, which recruits staff exclusively in Spain. The three young women already speak German quite well and will continue to deepen their knowledge. in courses, but of course also when working with the children. Before moving to Germany, you learned German for five hours every day for six months. Helmeca has been running its own language school in Madrid since 2013. The company supports the educators on their way to full recognition as specialists and attaches just as much importance to comprehensive integration, says managing director Raul Krämer. “Young people shouldn’t see this as an adventure.” It’s about retaining them in the long term. And to do this they would have to feel comfortable in the new environment.
Friendly reception
They were very warmly welcomed here, reports María Rita Alonso Pardavila, who started at the Am Wilhelmshof daycare center in Sprendlingen. She already has experience abroad, most recently working in a refugee home in Greece. The young woman from Galicia is excited to see “how integration works in Germany” and is looking forward to the intercultural exchange.
Amanda Duque Boro comes from Madrid and is now joining the daycare team at Kita Winkelsmühle. “I am very happy to be here and want to learn something new every day.” Rebeca Gutierrez Miralles also comes from the Spanish capital and is now looking after children at the Gravenbruchstrasse daycare center in Sprendlingen. Things are likely to be even more musical there in the future, because she plays the guitar and is currently learning the piano, reports Miralles.
Problems with housing
Dreieich is comparatively late when it comes to reinforcements from Spain. According to Krämer, it is very important to Helmeca that the contractual partners can offer apartments. “We are a little behind on municipal housing construction,” Burlon admits. Two of the three Spanish women live in Neu-Isenburg, the third in Langen. “The demand is so high, not just in the Rhine-Main region, that we could place 300 to 400 educators a year,” says Krämer. If there was enough living space.
In Dreieich there is currently a lack of 35 full-time specialists in the daycare centers. The magistrate has therefore decided to commission another company to recruit staff. TalentOrange GmbH also specializes in acquiring workers from abroad. The company is primarily looking in Latin America, and currently also in Africa. To date, the company has placed more than a thousand qualified specialists. In January 2024, Burlon hopes, Dreieich could get a chance here for the first time.
