“The city budget is a work of over 1000 pages. It is difficult for interested citizens to work their way through these lists, ”said a statement from parliamentary group leader Sven Malsy. In addition, some points in the plan can only be understood through explanations. It has already been decided several times to make the budget more transparent, for example through a public budget presentation or a contact email address for citizens’ suggestions. But nothing has happened yet.
The aim of the current application is a public event on the draft budget, at which citizens have the opportunity to ask questions and point out grievances.
Citizen transparency is currently particularly important because of the financially difficult situation of the city, so the Left – for example in view of the decision to cut public transport. The goal must be a “tangible democracy” and closeness to the citizens. “Budget decisions should be understandable for everyone,” said the parliamentary group. jon
