LThe filing of the 2021-2022-2023 triennial assessment roll shows an average increase in taxable assessments of 6%, all categories distinct. The council therefore voted for an equivalent reduction in the property tax rate, both for residential and non-residential.
“To this is added the increase in income generated by new developments, which allows a freeze of the property tax for an average residence,” said the Municipality in a press release.
The average home value in Chelsea is $ 462,615.
The tax rate is now $ 0.7457 per $ 100 of assessment for residential and $ 1.0536 per $ 100 of assessment for non-residential.
Chelsea’s budget for 2021 also includes the sum of $ 64,000 for the creation of two active transport trails in the center of the village and the maintenance of existing trails, $ 10,000 for the construction of an infrastructure for young people and development of a meeting place for adolescents as well as the injection of $ 150,000 for a study on the degradation of roads and a study on future needs in terms of services and infrastructure in the village center.
Nearly $ 4 million will also be paid for debt service repayment.
“The budget we just adopted reflects the priorities of this council and the community. With investments mainly in the environment and active transportation, we are making sure to put forward concrete actions in this direction for the next few years, but also for the years to come ”, declared the mayor of Chelsea, Caryl Green, in a statement.
