Kathmandu ∙ A spiritual leader in Nepal has been arrested in a case of molesting a minor girl in an ashram. Ram Bahadur Bomjan (33), who claims to be the reincarnation of Buddha and is believed by his followers, was arrested. He is popularly known as ‘Buddha Boy’.
At an early age, Bomjan created followers by meditating for days without eating, drinking or sleeping. Believers say that Bomjan can meditate like this for months. It is alleged that followers were physically and sexually harassed at the Sarlahi Ashram in Kathmandu. He was arrested by the CIB (Central Investigation Bureau) of Nepal, who had been absconding for years.
The present arrest is in the case of rape of a minor girl. 30 million Nepalese rupees and 22,500 dollars were seized from his hand. In 2010, many harassment complaints were raised against him. He claimed that he had beaten up those in the ashram for disturbing his meditation. He is also under investigation in connection with the disappearance of four people from the ashram.
