Khris Middleton had 27 points and 13 rebounds, and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Boston Celtics 121-119 on Wednesday night for eight straight wins.
Milwaukee went as far as 25 points, but only secured the win after Boston’s Daniel Theis missed a three-point attempt from the corner in the final seconds.
After trailing 90-65 midway through the third period, the Celtics cut the difference to two goals thanks to a 3-pointer by Jaylen Brown with 1:32 left. Theis provoked an offensive foul from Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Celtics had several opportunities to tie the game or go to the front.
Marcus Smart missed a three-point attempt with just over a minute to go. Donte DiVincenzo blocked a shot from Kemba Walker with 35 seconds left. Brook Lopez missed another Smart attempt at the basket with 2 seconds remaining.
Middleton blocked Smart’s serve. The Celtics regained possession and had one last chance.
Smart sent the ball to Theis, who was alone in front of the Celtics’ bench, but his shot bounced off the rim when the horn sounded.
Antetokounmpo scored 13 points – his second low-scoring performance this season – but also had eight rebounds and seven assists.
Brown led Boston with 24 points, Walker had 23.
The Bucks have won 13 of their last 14 games – a streak that began after they lost five in a row.
