Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State Athletic Department and its men’s basketball program mourn the loss of Granville Waiters, who held headquarters from 1980 to 1983. He died Monday at age 60.
“The Ohio State men’s basketball family brings their thoughts and prayers to the Granville Waiters family, friends and teammates,” said Chris Holtmann, head coach of the Buckeyes. “We were all saddened to learn of his passing. I was very impressed with the reverence and love that his former teammates have shown this week. It is clear that Granville meant a lot to a lot. We will surely miss him.
The bartenders attended East High School in Columbus before becoming Buckeye. He then went on to play in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls. He also spent a few years playing in the Spanish League in Spain after his NBA career.
In Ohio, the servers led the Buckeyes in 1983 on the field with 53.3% (131-246). He currently ranks 7th in career blocked shots with 136. His eight blocks against West Virginia (12/15/82), ranked sixth.
The 1983 Ohio State captain scored 601 career points with 434 career rebounds in 104 games played (61 as a starter). His teams have won 76 games and participated in three NCAA tournaments.
