Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro and the United States Ambassador to Guatemala, William Popp, highlighted the joint work of both countries to face different problems in recent years. The positions were given during the act to celebrate the 4th of July for the Independence of the United States and the inauguration of the new headquarters of the diplomatic mission in Cayalá, zone 16.

Búcaro highlighted how Guatemalans observe the United States, in a land of hope, that the pillars of the relationship between the two countries are built daily. “Today a new chapter of history began,” he said.

The foreign minister stressed that the voices of the United States and Guatemala were raised against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Many of you today carry a Moderna or Pfizer vaccine and that was thanks to the United States,” he mentioned. He also highlighted the president of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, and his counterpart, Joe Biden.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs took the opportunity to praise the contribution of Guatemalan migrants to the United States, as well as temporary labor mobility jobs and the help of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“Today we are one towards the future and towards destiny”, he remarked.

POPP: WE CREATE THE PATHWAY TO RECOVERY

While Popp considered this historic night because, in addition to the Independence of the United States, the first official act is celebrated in the new headquarters of the Embassy.

In addition, he recalled how that country collaborated with Guatemala during the passage of storms Eta and Iota, including the reconstruction process that involved USAID.

“In the darkest days of COVID-19, we donated 8.5 million doses of Moderna vaccines, among the first donations in the world, along with more than US$33 million in medical equipment to support Guatemala’s response. These efforts made it possible to vaccinate more than 8 million Guatemalans. Together we save lives and pave the way for recovery,” she remarked.
