A 29-year-old nurse started the year off with a bang by giving birth to the very first baby of the year at her workplace, just seconds after the New Year’s count ended.
“It started strong this year! [Mes collègues,] the night gang, came into my room with little bubbles, apple must. It was very funny, ”recounts Kim Desautels-Daviault, laughing on the phone.
She and her partner, Michel Paradis, welcomed little Maé, 7 lbs and an ounce, at midnight and two seconds on January 1 at the Pierre-Le Gardeur hospital in Terrebonne. This is their very first baby.
The new mom, who works in obstetrics at the same hospital, couldn’t believe she won the race for the first baby this year.
“When we get close to New Years Day, we always hope it’s our baby [celui qu’on accouche] who is the first. There, it would have been nice to try that it would not have worked as much, says the nurse who has six years of experience. She chose her moment. “
“Happy and tired”, she was back home Sunday in Lavaltrie to start this new chapter in their brand new house.
“It’s a new setting, with a new little baby,” she said softly. The emotion of becoming a parent is so strong. “
While the couple already knew they wanted to start a family for a long time, the pandemic has overtaken their plans, she says.
“For example, we wanted to make one last trip together, share moments as a couple before, but that led us to say to each other: ‘we don’t really know what’s going to happen, so let’s go,’” explains Kim Desautels- Daviault.
And despite the 5th wave, the pregnancy and delivery went off without a hitch. Now the new parents are only hoping that things will improve quickly so that they can show the newcomer hoe to their loved ones.
“We can’t wait to present it, that’s for sure! We are people who like to host, we are very family oriented, ”concludes the young mother.
The race for the first baby of the year was almost won by a boy named Charles, born at 12:37 a.m. at the Saint-François d’Assise hospital of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval, in the Capitale-Nationale.
Two minutes later, at 12:39 a.m., a girl was born at La Malbaie hospital.
