BTS wins Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards

For the first time in history, performers from Asia have become winners in this prestigious category.

South Korean pop group BTS became the winner of the main nomination Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards 2021.

Seven guys became the first representatives of an Asian country in the history of the award to receive this award.

Together with BTS, they nominated for the title of “Artist of the Year” according to the American Music Awards 2021 Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and The Weekend.

This is not the only award BTS has taken away. The band also won Best Pop Group and Best Song for their track Butter.

Olivia Rodrigo won in the nomination “New Artist of the Year”, the best performer was Ed Sheeran, the best singer – Taylor Swift. And Lil Nas X received the Best Music Video award for the video for the song Call Me By Your Name.

It is worth noting that the BTS group previously topped the Billboard Hot 100. The musicians also became the first performers in the k-pop genre to nominate for a Grammy. However, the group failed to become the owner of the award.

Recall that BTS (Bangtan Boys or Beyond The Scene) is a South Korean pop music group consisting of seven guys under the pseudonyms: RM, Chin, Sugi, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jongguk. The collective was created in 2013 by Big Hit Entertainment.
