Members of the incredibly popular South Korean k-pop group BTS are enlisting in the army and will only be able to continue performing in 2025. The magazine reports this People.
Last December, Chin was the first member of BTS to enlist in the military. He will return in June 2024. Then the lead singers of the boy band RM, Jimin and V went to the service.
Now 26-year-old Jungkook will join the ranks of the military. He will serve together with the rest of the ensemble’s soloists.
“I’m leaving you for a while to serve in the army. When I share this news, on the one hand I feel heavy, and on the other hand, I am reminded of precious memories with ARMY (as the musicians call the army of fans), so my heart warms,” he wrote on his page on the social network.
Jungkook expressed the hope that after a year and a half of service, fans will not forget him.
“We ask that you continue to love and support RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook until they complete their military service and return safely,” the music label Big Hit Music said on its social media account.
The official length of military service in South Korea is two years, but world-class celebrities can serve in alternative service, in accordance with the country’s law.
In July 2023, the group celebrated its tenth anniversary with the release of its first official book, Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record of BTS, in Korean and English. The publication immediately became a leader among Amazon bestsellers, and also took first place in the ranking of music biographies.
