Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Food producer Mars Wrigley has apologized for advertising its limited edition Snickers product launch on Friday (5/8). The apology was conveyed to the Chinese government after they referred to Taiwan as a country.

Videos and photos show the Snickers website promoting the limited edition product and saying the product is only available in “countries” of South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan. The Snickers ad has sparked outrage among Chinese netizens on Weibo.

Mars Wrigley as the chocolate candy manufacturer then released his apology via the Chinese Weibo Snickers account. The company states that the relevant content has been changed.
This has even been responded to by Chinese diplomat Zhang Meifang who said that the company had stated earnestly “respect for China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
For information, China considers Taiwan as part of its territory. But Taiwan rejects China’s claim to sovereignty and says only its people can decide the island’s future.

This issue came right after the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan on Tuesday (2/8). For the visit, China sanctioned Nancy and started military exercises.
The sanctions against Nancy include canceling or suspending talks with the US on various issues, including climate change and military relations.
