Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bank BTPN Tbk. (BTPN) conveyed the handling of a ‘carding’ case which caused losses to customers of up to IDR 15 million some time ago. The bank also provided tips so that the same thing doesn’t happen again.
“Bank BTPN has received customer reports and we are handling them seriously. As a follow-up to these complaints, Bank BTPN has carried out an investigation and identified illegal transactions in the form of carding,” as stated in its official statement, Sunday, (19/11/2023).
BTPN Bank has also canceled the unauthorized transactions and has fully restored the balances of customers who were proven to have experienced unauthorized transactions. The management ensured that the customer experienced no losses in this incident.
“The customer has understood our explanation and thus, the complaint has been closed,” he explained.
As it is known, carding is an attempt by an irresponsible external party to make transactions using customer debit/credit card data at online merchants that have not implemented a 3D Secure system that does not have a One-Time Password (OTP) as a transaction authorization process for customers.
Customers don’t need to panic when experiencing carding. If a customer is carded, immediately contact the bank and take security measures by blocking the debit/credit card as soon as possible, either in the application or through the call center.
Here are the steps you can take to avoid carding:
1. Maintain the confidentiality of the 16 digit card number, 3 digit security code on the back of the card (CVV), and card expiration date by not giving this data to anyone.
2. Avoid giving debit/credit cards to other parties when making payments at offline merchants.
3. Avoid making online transactions on public Wi-Fi.
4. Never store debit/credit card data in a place that can be accessed by other people.
5. Save the credit card bill and throw it away after shredding it, so that personal data cannot be read by other people.
“We urge customers to always be careful when making transactions using debit/credit cards at online merchants or e-commerce that have not implemented a 3D secure system or transactions without using an OTP, to prevent transactions without authorization,” he said.
