For: Bank PT Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) to promote the number of low-emission homes to support the Government in accelerating the provision of homes that are livable, healthy and environmentally friendly. In 2029, BTN aims to finance 150 thousand houses with low emissions.
The Chairman of the President Prabowo Subianto’s Housing Task Force, Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, said that his party fully supports the BTN initiative in promoting the construction of low-emission houses. This move, he continued, is in line with the new government’s efforts to build one million houses in urban areas and two million houses in small towns across Indonesia every year.
“Building low-emission homes will increase the supply of habitable and quality homes, while providing a better environment for future generations. This campaign also encourages green economy become more accessible, as the demand for environmentally friendly components is increasing,” explained Hashim at the launch of the Low Emission Home Pilot Project at Mutiara Gading City Housing, Bekasi, Thursday, 29 August 2024.
BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu said that house buildings and the activities within them are one of the biggest producers of carbon emissions, including energy use, construction, to care and maintenance. To create a better environment for future generations, Nixon, BTN continued the campaign to promote access to low-emission homes.
According to Nixon, this step is also a form of BTN’s commitment to address the challenges of climate change and promote the ecosystem. housing national stability. “This year 1,000 Low Emission Homes will use at least 10 percent environmentally friendly materials. Gradually, there will be 150 thousand houses with a share of 30 percent of used materials. eco-friendly in 2029,” Nixon explained.
Onward pilot project Therefore, BTN uses environmentally friendly materials in form floor decoration containing 3.6 kilograms (kg) of plastic waste. This project will also use paving block which contains 2 kg of plastic waste per 1 square meter.
Nixon explained that the gradual target until 2029 will help to reduce more than 1.7 million kilograms of plastic waste. In addition, carbon emissions will be reduced by 2.42 tons of CO2. This effect, he said, is equivalent to planting 110 thousand trees and including 323 hectares of emissions.
In addition to using environmentally friendly building materials, BTN also encourages developers in the Low Emission Housing sector to ensure a number of standards. These include being efficient in the use of energy, water, waste management, and reducing pollution.
Eco-friendly home energy efficiency
For energy efficiency, environmentally friendly houses must have a lot of ventilation, high ceilings, so that the window to wall ratio reaches 15-30 percent. These standards are set so that there is good air circulation. Water efficiency is achieved through the use of small distribution taps, good sanitation, with filtration wells, and the use of clean water from the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM).
At the same time, for waste processing, low-emission households must have waste sorting bins. At the same time, to reduce pollution, developers are asked to install one carbon emission absorption plant for each house. In addition, pollution is also reduced by using at least 10 percent of environmentally friendly materials on walls and floors, so that green open space is 10 percent of the total area of the residential area .
“We believe that good, healthy and environmentally friendly housing will improve the quality of life of the people who live there,” said Nixon.
Meanwhile, since 1976, BTN has distributed 5.2 million units of Home Property Credit (KPR), both through subsidized, non-subsidized and sharia housing financing. To fully support the Million Houses Program since 2015, BTN has distributed 1.9 million KPR units or the equivalent of IDR 403.5 trillion.
The Head of the United Nations (UN) Representative in Indonesia Gita Sabharwal appreciated BTN’s commitment to implementing sustainability principles through low-emission homes. BTN’s innovative measures, Gita said, not only increase the price of environmentally friendly houses, but can also improve the living standards of low and middle income people, while reducing emissions.
Gita also assessed that the real commitment made by BTN was an inspiration and a model for the banking sector in Indonesia in accelerating the implementation of the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals. “We are open to collaborate with BTN to the next level for a better future, because life is not just about today,” said Gita.
