Luca Klingforth expressed what could be seen on his players’ faces after the final whistle: “It’s frustrating. We deserved a point.” A point with which the Blumenthaler SV football B juniors would have set an example in the Regionalliga Nord and fueled hope for better times. But instead they suffered their fifth defeat in the seventh game of the season with 1:3 (0:0) against VfB Lübeck and are now already five points away from salvation.
The good news about yesterday’s game played on artificial turf at Burgwall is as follows: the second-to-last team demanded everything from the second-place team, played a strong first half, fought for every inch of ground and created a number of chances to score. However, it was once again impossible to ignore the fact that the Blumenthalers had considerable problems in being so decisive in the end that the opponent’s bell rang more often. The North Bremen team have only managed five goals in seven games. And yesterday’s goal was the last action of the game and only had statistical value. It was thanks to Nando Adam, who converted a penalty awarded to Romeo Ofori in the follow-up to make the final score.
The starting phase belonged to the hosts, but Ferhat Yilmaz, Nando Adam and Naiym Zaher couldn’t get the ball going. Driven by Romeo Ofori and Luca-Joel Gendritzki, BSV showed a wide and deep offensive game with good shifts, which was only missing a goal as the icing on the cake. In defense, the central defenders Lasse Hagenbeck and Diego Schöpf cleared everything in the last instance and Mohammad Younes presented himself as a master of his craft with two great feats (25th/63rd). Lübeck became increasingly more confident on the ball and showed their class. At the break it was clear that BSV were absolutely equal and even had an increase in chances. What was missing, luckily for BSV, was a leadership.
Serious misunderstanding
At the beginning of the second 40 minutes it became apparent that the Blumenthalers had forgotten some of their enthusiasm, their activity and their attention in the dressing room. With a great chance in the 41st minute they were lucky to avoid making it 0-1, four minutes later a misunderstanding put them behind. A fraction of a second before goalkeeper Mohammad Younes rushed out of the goal to grab the ball, central defender Lasse Hagenbeck decided to clarify the situation himself. He didn’t hit the ball fully and it fell with a lot of spin at the feet of Lübeck’s executing Luc Otzmann.
This 0:1 was an effective goal. A few minutes followed with uncertainty in all parts of the team and the second Lübeck goal was in the air several times. The BSV survived this difficult phase, but could no longer find its rhythm from the first half of the game. And the BSV talents had also somewhat lost the belief that they could score one or even more goals against VfB Lübeck. After 68 minutes the next blow came. A loss of the ball in front of their own penalty area was punished by the Lübeck team, who combined to the baseline and served the one lurking in the middle, making it 2-0. It was understandable that Luca Klingforth also took the lack of luck into account after the end of the game, because one minute after the score was 0-2, the post prevented Romeo Omori from scoring the next goal. The Schleswig-Holsteiners showed what luck can look like in the last minute of regular time when Artur Justus, who was substituted at half-time, hammered the ball into the top right corner with a 22-meter diagonal shot.
“We have to take away from this game that little things make the difference,” Luca Klingforth told his players on their way home, also referring to the lack of coordination when the goal made it 0-1. He expressly praised the fighting performance in the team: “You did really well.”
