Ivan Takov was elected chairman of the BSP-Sofia City Council by delegates to the 14th Conference of the Sofia Party Organization.
He received 157 votes in a secret ballot. The other contender, Valeri Ivanchev, received 7 votes.
Tomorrow, March 23, at 1 pm, the current chairman of the BSP – Sofia Kaloyan Pargov and the newly elected Ivan Takov will give a joint press conference. The event will take place in the hall at 10 Lege Street
Ivan Takov is the current deputy chairman of the BSP-Sofia, and Valeri Ivanchev – chairman of a major party organization in the capital’s Mladost district. The other candidates have withdrawn. About 20 were nominated for the post.
Ivan Takov was born on April 24, 1979 in Sofia. He graduated from the 133rd High School “A. S. Pushkin “. He received his higher education at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, majoring in Finance. He has a postgraduate qualification from the BNB. He was a director in a bank and managed a foreign investment fund.
He has been a member of the BSP since 2003. He is chairman of the BSP Regional Council in Vazrazhdane. Since 2020 he has been Deputy Chairman of the BSP City Council – Sofia. For the third term he is a municipal councilor and is deputy chairman of the BSP for Bulgaria group in the SOC.
In his speech to the delegates, Ivan Takov said that the weather today requires looking ahead and finding the right path.
“Scandals, accusations, low passions – they are for our enemies. We are comrades here. All but one. I want us to be united, to be together, to be strong. And quarrels and intrigues do not make us strong. On the contrary! They weaken us. They are wasting our energy “, the new chairman of BSP – Sofia is categorical.
He explained that the tasks are many, the responsibility is huge. “Working with people requires honesty, fair decisions and a lot of patience. The position of chairman of the BSP – Sofia City Council requires courage and determination, quick and reasonable actions. So far, I have dealt with different positions and there is no reason not to continue to do so. I have come a long way in the Party and it is completely natural for me to take the next step, “Takov explained.
According to him, a lot of work is ahead and unity is needed. “We have to be comrades in the true sense of the word. We also need a desire to work. We need faith that we can do everything and move forward “, Ivan Takov was categorical and outlined the tasks for which he will work to be solved.
“The first and most important thing is to calm the passions, to humble ourselves and to restore our friendly relations. At all levels in the City Party Organization. I see opportunities for this in the right distribution of responsibilities; in the high activity of the working bodies – the commissions and councils of the City and Regional Councils of the BSP; in understanding the tasks in front of the horizontal structures; in a new sense of the work of the federations to the city organization “, said the elected chairman of the Sofia organization of the BSP and added that the goal is not to be divided into working and evaluating, and everyone in a responsible position to have their place and responsibility to achieve the set goals.
The second task that Takov singled out is to determine the goals that the capital’s socialists want to achieve by the local elections in the fall of 2023, Darik reported.
“This vote will be the big challenge for the City Party Organization. This implies work in many directions and special attention to local policies.
“We are about to prepare the platform with which the BSP will run in the local elections in Sofia at the end of next year. We must very carefully consider and determine the formula for participation in the battle for mayor of Sofia and possible coalition partners, “said Ivan Takov.
The third task he set himself was to win the battle for history.
“There is no room for retreat here. In recent months, we have witnessed a brutal attack to change history by people temporarily residing in politics. Attempts at this brazen trampling of historical facts are not new to us. Only together can we resolutely resist the pressure to remove monuments, their daily desecration, the demands for renaming Sofia’s landmarks, “said Takov, who is also deputy chairman of the BSP group in the SOC.
“Bulgaria needs the BSP because national interests are above all. The people need a strong left-wing party to take care of them and stand up for their rights. We need our cause, “Ivan Takov concluded.
About a month ago, the BSP National Council imposed a sentence on Kaloyan Pargov – temporary revocation of the right to hold party positions, membership in party bodies and the right to run for office within a year. However, Pargov remained chairman of the BSP for Bulgaria group in the Sofia Municipal Council after municipal councilors on his left voted in favor.
